Project 365 - Week 18 "Mystery Box"

Well this week was certainly a fun week for photography. The theme this week was actually thought up by my wife, Samantha. She wanted to challenge me a bit by giving me a box full of random items that I then had to photograph. I had no knowledge of the items before they were given to me, thus the "mystery." I actually had fun trying to figure out how I could photography each item so as to make them appear interesting but also give each its own unique flare.

I always enjoy and appreciate these themes as they push me to move further into studio work and experiment more with lighting and composition. I must thank my wife for such a fun theme as well as such a fun and exciting set of items.

Project 365 - Week 17 "Fruits"

Seventeen weeks ago when I started Project 365, I took a photo of a lime. Since then, I have received a lot of positive feedback on the photo. This week I decided to take that photo and elaborate more on what I had done for it. I chose to make the focus on fruits and decided to continue with the same method of photographing each one, focusing on a cross section of each rather than the whole.

At times it was tedious, slicing a thin sliver off of a blueberry is not easy. Photographing each piece was a bit tricky as well. I opted to work without a tripod so as to move around trying to see if there was something different I could achieve for each shot. This set me back some, as sacrificing stability led to some out of focus photos and some that weren't framed appropriately. The difficulties were small however and I really enjoyed the whole process, especially the part in the end when I got to eat all of the fruit.

Project 365 - Weeks 15 & 16 - The Body

Well, after a two week "vacation," I'm back. I'm posting this week with a double week to make up for the missed post. The subject I got for this post has been one drifting around in my head for a while and it wasn't until now that I decided to attack it. No better time than a two for one special at BE Photography.

The subject for this post is the human body. In my recent ventures into black and white work, I've noticed more and more how amazing the body can look, especially when the light falls on the curves in just the right ways. I've chosen to number the images as "Abstracts" to leave them as such and not spell out what they are, some are obvious and some are not. This was definitely a tricky assignment, especially when trying to pick different parts of the body. It all came out in the end and I am happy with the results.

Also, with this weeks post I have reached 100 photos so far. I'm excited that I made it this far and am happy to keep on going. It would be a lie if I didn't say that it got a bit shaky there. But we are still here and going. With that said, keep and eye out for a special post.

Week 14 - J. Kayne Keele: The Man, The Myth, The Legend

Hello again everyone. This weeks post is gonna be a quick one. Whenever you get a block like I did this week, its always nice when you have something that presents itself. All you have to do is grasp on to it. My opportunity this week came in the guise of a photograph for my brother in law Jason. All that was needed was a simple professional photo, what came of it was pure gold. Jason was set in his usual charismatic, humorous ways which led to a couple of shots that just screamed for more. So as we kept going, I just made sure to keep snapping away and this weeks post is what follows.

I must give a huge thanks to Jason for being a great model as well as both my wife Samantha and Jason's wife Renee for being such great lighting assistants.

Project 365 - Week 13 "Zoo Faces"

Hey everyone, its that time again. Sorry for such a late post but I'm here with the goods. Once again I put my focus this week on a little trip that I made. I had some family in town and we went to the World Wildlife Zoo here in the Phoenix West Valley. It was a great trip as I had never been and Samantha had never been since the aquarium was added. There are definitely some really cool animals that they have.

On to the photography. I love photographing animals. However, it is a challenge to photograph them in cages, tanks, etc. Dealing with fences, glass, reflections, and other man made objects can be pretty hard. With all of that said, I was super excited with some of the shots that I got. I stuck pretty much with my macro and telephoto lenses. Some animals didn't want to cooperate and some did. My favorite had to have been the red tailed lion (first photo) as he/she absolutely loved my presence and as odd as it sounds I had the best connection with him/her. With that said, please enjoy.

365 - Week 12 "Tucson Architecture"

Hey everyone. I came to the conclusion that I should stop in and reveal this past weeks photos. My wife Samantha and I made a trip down to Tucson so that I could photograph some of the architecture around town. It was a wonderful trip as it was a walk down memory lane for me being back in Tucson and at UA as well as a chance for us to meet some old friends of ours.

The trip was a total success, even though I am chomping at the bit to go back for some more. The architecture around Tucson, especially on campus at UA is incredible. There are even a lot of new buildings there that are new since I left. One being the new Rec Center which I am envious I never had the chance to use. Well, I hope everyone enjoys this weeks selection.

Project 365 - Week 11 "Texture"

Here we are at week 11 and I'm ever so slowly starting to get my schedules all caught up and back to regular. For this weeks them I chose to return to the basics. I decided to work on my photography and artistic basics and this weeks them was texture. Texture can sometimes be tricky as it is very reliant on the lighting to get just right. I started off struggling just to find something to focus on, but as the week moved forward my eyes opened up more, not just to the things around me and all of the different textures, but to ways I could be creative with them.

Now, before you go asking though about the first photo, I did say that I was going to return to the Maricopa County Library at the White Tanks and I followed through. It was a beautiful morning and I was able to get some shots that I was really hoping for. With that said, I do hope that everyone enjoys.
